As a creative hub for people with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder, St. James’ Creation (SJC) is actively involved in the art projects that foster community ties while empowering our ceramists ‘C-Fu-Jai’ to create art imagery. These initiatives are funded by the sales of artwork, workshop income, grants, and donations.

Our ceramists are affectionately called ‘C-Fu-Jai’ who lead the way for SJC’s arts development.  Their artistic talents along with forthright character have made them artists or even mentors, more than just the service recipients.

Established in 1999 under the Rehabilitation Services of St. James’ Settlement, SJC aims to promote and advocate arts development for people in need. In recognition of the efforts of our ‘C-Fu-Jai’, SJC received the Award for Arts Promotion at the 15th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2021. Furthermore, the team has participated in over 100 local and overseas exhibitions, namely the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2015 in Korea, and Gift from Land at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2018 in Japan.

“Our Stories – Memories in Clay” and “Our Stories +1+ 1” is financially supported by the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

‘MusiCLAY’

The name ‘MusiCLAY’ encapsulates the innovative fusion of music and ceramic arts, highlighting the creative interplay between auditory and tactile experiences. The upcoming touring exhibitions and activities to be hosted in 2025, allow participants to engage with art in a dynamically interactive way. It could reawaken and activate every sense through such unprecedented ‘Play Music, Play Clay’ experience.

Curated by St. James’ Creation, ‘MusiCLAY’ is a sub-project of the community art programme ‘Our Stories’ showcasing the cross-boundaries creativity with artists from diverse fields.
