St. James’ Creation (SJC) provides a platform for people with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder to create art. It offers opportunities for them to grow in their arts and develop art as their vocations

St. James’ Creation (SJC) began in 1999 under the Rehabilitation Services of St. James’ Settlement. Members of SJC use clay as their primary medium of creation, but also explore sculpture and media art. Through courses, exhibitions, workshops and community art projects, SJC creates opportunities for art appreciation, communication and connection with the community

SJC has taken part in exhibitions including Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2015 in Korea and Gift from Land at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2018 in Japan. SJC has also developed the Our Stories series and “Clay For Tomorrow” as its signature art projects. Its community art project “Our Stories – Memories in Clay “received the Award for Arts Promotion in the 15th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2021

“Our Stories – Memories in Clay” and “Our Stories +1+ 1” is financially supported by the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

“Clay for Tomorrow” is financially supported by the Arts Development Fund for People with Disabilities of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

Art Like That

During the pandemic, SJC launched an online art program 《Art Like That》 hosted by ceramists

Each episode of the show has a different theme. When the audience is fighting against the epidemic at home, they can still make small creations by hand at any time. Through the participation in art activities, they face the difficulties together and cheer for everyone

The first to eight episodes received research funding from Prof Law Suk-mun, Sophia, Associate Professor, Department of Visual Arts of Lingnan University
